On January 1st 2013 I went to the hospital to be induced. My due date was January 3rd, but I was told I wouldn't go past that day due to my high blood pressure. A few days before I had the baby (we didn't know what we were having. We never find out.) I had low amniotic fluid surrounding the baby so my doctor scheduled a certain induction date for the first. We had scheduled other induction times as a precaution, but since everything was going well we canceled and changed them. I got the call that morning to come to the hospital that morning at nine AM. We dropped Alexa off at grandma's and went to the hospital. All checked in they got me started on the petosin (a medicine that starts contractions) and eventually broke my water. I didn't get an epidural yet because our goal was to do it natural due to no insurance. The petosin gradually increased through my IV. I was doing really well breathing through the contractions and trying to relax (the petosin makes contractions worse. They become stronger and longer.). At maybe about 3:00 PM The contractions were unbearable! They hurt so bad I couldn't cry. Then the nurse came running in to turn down the petosin. She said wow, we need to turn this down, you are having like a million contractions! Believe me I knew! There was no break in between. She and Richard tried different techniques to try to alleviate the pain, like pressing on my lower back and letting me push against them while they held my feet during a contraction. Nothing worked, I just wanted to punch someone! And I wanted the epidural! They offered to try another pain medicine but I caved and got the epidural. The anesthesiologist gave me a spinal block then the epidural so it would work faster. Gradually the pain decreased and vanished. Amazing!! The rest of the labor and delivery went well. My time to push came and I chose to watch through a mirror. We saw the head and I said "that's not going to fit through there!" Everyone laughed, but I was serious. Dr. Froerer assured me it would. I finally got the head out and got to watch my baby turn its head! The umbilical cord was around the neck, Dr. Froerer took it off and guided the baby the rest of the way out. At 5:01 PM the baby was born. Richard got to announce the sex. "It's another girl!" I was disappointed, I really really thought it was a boy! Then I saw my angel and would change nothing. We named her Shelby Lou Woods. 6 lbs. 12 oz. 19" long. I tore a bit so Dr. Froerer stitched me up and I got to feed and love my baby.
